Shenyang

Shenyang is located to the north of Hun River (named Shen Shui River in the ancient time), and the ancient Chinese traditionally called the north of a river "yang". So the city got its name as Shenyang. Shenyang is an ancient city with a long history. Back to more than 7,200 years ago, ancestors of the mankind lived and multiplied on this beautiful land. It was subordinate to Yingzhou before Zhou Dynasty (about the 11th century B.C.), subordinate to Liaodong County during the Period of Warring States (475-221 B.C.), to Hou City in the Western Han Dynasty (206-24 B.C.). Shenzhou was set up in Liao Dynastry (960-1127), surrounded by earthen walls. This was the start of the city of Shenyang. The city continued to use the name Shenyang in Jin Dynastry (1127-1279). And in Yuan Dynastry, the city was rebuilt and renamed Shenyang Lu. In 1625, Nurhach, the Tai Zu Emperor of Qing Dynasty, transferred its capital from Liaoyang to Shenyang, and in 1634, Huang Tai Ji, Tai Zong Emperor of Qing Dynasty worshipped Shenyang as Shengjing, and it became the capital of Qing Dynasty. In 1644, after the capital was moved to Beijing in Qing Dynasty, Shenyang became an accompanying capital. After Qing united the whole China, in 1657, it set up Fengtian Government in Shenyang. In 1945, the city recovered its name-Shenyang.

Transportation

Accessibility to the City
Shenyang Taoxian Airport has opened 57 domestic airlines and 8 international and regional airlines. Shenyang has railway stations including Shenyang Railway Station and Shenyang North Station. It has opened 33 railway lines, receiving and sending 298 passenger trains and 320,000 passengers each day. There are also special trains stopping at Shenyang. Shenyang also opens tourist trains: Y239/240 (Shenyang-Shanhai Pass), Y235/236 (Shenyang-Xiliu), Circle 1-8 (Shenyang-Fushun), and some tourist trains stop at Shenyang, such as Y241/242 (Shenyang North-Dandong), Y27/28 (Jiamusi-Xiliu) and Liaodong Peninsula Train, etc. There are Xiuhu Dock in Huishan Scenic Area and Yanhe Dock on the Xinkai River in Shenyang. There are entrance and exit gates of expressways in Shenyang. After the completion of Shenyang-Dalian Expressway in 1989, Shenyang, Shentie, Shenfu and Circling City Expressways have been built. There are more than 10 gates of expressway in Shenyang, such as North Li Guan.

Domestic and International Air Lines, Airport
Shenyang Taoxian International Airport is a civilian airport of state level A. It was funded jointly by the State. Liaoning Province and Shenyang City. Being a port airport for opening up, it came into use on April 16,1989. Located in Taoxian Village in Dongling District, in the southern suburb of Shenyang, the airport is 18km from the urban area and occupies an area of 2.91 million square meters. It is adjacent to the 5 surrounding cities of Fushun, Benxi, Liaoyang, Anshan and Tieling and has expressways to each of these cities. Its geographical position is very advantageous. The airport is equipped with a set of advanced instrumental landing communication and navigation system. The airport field is flat and the sky there is cleared up. It now has a runway of 3,200 meters long and 45 meters wide. The parking apron occupies an area of 113,000 square meters and has 16 parking seats. The flight area is at the 4B level. It can serve all current models of aircraft in the world. The terminal building occupies an area of 16,000 square meters, receiving and sending an average of 6,575 people daily. Since it's opening up, the airport has opened air transport with 45 cities and regions, and signed agent agreements with 25 airliner companies to further improve its service functions. The airport has successively won the honorable titles as "Shenyang City Civilization Unit", "National Top 300 Tree-planting Unit", "National Sanitary Airport", "Liaoning Province Civilization Unit", "National Civilization Airport", "Shenyang City Civilization Unit Model", etc.

Railway Stations, Special Tour Trains
Located on the main line of Jing Ha Line, it is the linkage of railways in Northeast China and is the cross point of Shenshan, Shen Da, Shen Fu, Shen Dan, Shen Ji and Shen Ha Lines. The station was first built in 1907. In technical operation, it was set as a section station; in business, it was set as a passenger and cargo integrated station. And it was set as a special station according to the workload. Shenyang Railway Station mainly undertakes the arriving, departing and passing cargo and passenger trains on the above 6 lines. Every 2.9 minutes on average, there is a train arriving at, departing or passing the station. The station handles an average of 134 passenger trains and about 80,000 passengers daily. The station loads about 80 cargo trains; and unloads 270 to 280 cargo trains daily. There is a freight and consignment center, a general service company of ticketing, passenger transport, delivery, loading, unloading and travel. There are another 120 special lines used for whole-train or lumpish freight for large and medium-sized enterprises. In passenger transport, the station employs telephone booking, other-place booking, flowing booking, to and return ticket and joint journey ticket, and carries out computer network booking with the Industrial and Commercial Bank.

Shenyang North Railway Station
Shenyang North Railway Station is a large passenger railway station in the country. It was finished and came into operation on Dec. 22, 1990. The station handles 134 passenger trains, an average of 46,000 passengers (61,000 at most) and 11,000 pieces of packages (17,000 at most) every day. The station has a 16-storeyed multi-functional service building, 4 waiting halls, 1 soft-seat waiting hall, 1 luxurious waiting hall and 1 distinguished visitors room. The booking office and consignment office are in the east of the building, and in the west, there is the package drawing office. Inside the station, there are 4 platforms, 2 passenger underground passages, 2 special passages for packages and 7 passenger train lines. The whole station occupies an area of 110 hectares. The station has 5 major departments of passenger transport, ticketing, package, delivery and equipment, 11 functional offices and tourist service, labor service, auto leasing and flower companies, as well as an agriculture and sideline base and the comprehensive service building. The station has a total of 3,246 employees.

River, Lake and Sea Passenger Docks
Xinkai River is an irrigating channel cut in 1914. The Xinkai River comprehensive rebuilding project started in Dec 1995, and the first phase ended in Sept 1997. The whole river is 277km long, starting from Hun River Dongling Entrance Gate in the east, ending at 767-railway special line, and flowing through 5 districts of Yuhong, Huanggu, Dadong, Dongling and Shenhe. There are altogether 13 docks along the river.

Entrances and Exits of Expressways
There are more than 10 entrances and exits of expressways in Shenyang, such as North LiGuan. The total mileage of expressways with in Shenyang is 173 kilometers, among which 32.2 kilometers to Dalian, 34.5km to Benxi, 26.7km to Tieling and 7.8km to Fushun. The crossing-city and circling-city expressway is 72km long. In addition, the under-building expressway from Shenyang to Shanhai Pass is 63.2km.

• Zhong Street
  As a business area of Shenyang, Zhong Street has a long history, and along the two sides of its, 1,000-meter-long street, there are about 100 units, including commercial, food, and cultural entertainment sectors, and so on. There, people can enjoy shopping, food service, recreational activities and sightseeing. In 1997, Shenyang City and Shenhe District invested tens of millions of RMB to carry out a comprehensive innovation of Zhong Street. Streetlights of new models have been set there, and in the middle of the street, people now could see green grass, fountains and sculptures. In the daytime, tourists can see various beautiful scenery; and in the evening the shining streetlights display another beautiful scene. • Yangjia Diaolu Pie and Roast Duck Restaurant

• Shenyang Fengweilou Food Street
  Shenyang Fengweilou is a food street, which naturally came into being before the new China was founded. In 1998, The municipal government thoroughly rebuilt this street and made it even more famous both in and out of the province. Fengweilou mainly deals with flavor food, and is famous for some old brand restaurants. Among those are Beiyang Dumpling, renowned food in Shenyang City, and Guantang steamed stuffed dumpling introduced from Kaifeng, Henan Province. In December 1998, the 2nd department of Shenyang Fengweilou was opened in Zhong Street North Trade Building. Its business area is 2,600 square meters and for once, it can accommodate more than 800 customers. Today, Shenyang Fengweilou has been developed into a food street famous throughout the country and well known for both its scale and features.
   

• Mashaomai Restaurant
  Mashomai Restaurant is the earliest restaurant run by Hui nationality people in Shenyang's modern times. Due to more than 200 years development and several generations' efforts, Mashomai Restaurant now has become a first class Muslim restaurant famous throughout the world. Mashaomai Restaurant makes food by carefully selected material and special process. Its wrappings are made by hand, which is of chrysanthemum form. Its production is in a traditional way. The ready Shaomai is as white as snow, and its wrappings are so thin that you can see its fillings clearly. It is really of good taste, yet not greasy.
