Shenzhen

Long in history, Shenzhen boasts many cultural relies and scenic spots. Those places of interest, such as ancient temples of Jin and Sui Dynasties, Haiguang and Lingdu Temple of Tang Dynasty, Huaidu Temple of Southern Tang Dynasty, Chiwan Goddess Temple of Song Dynasty, Xin'an Eight Sights of Ming and Qing Dynasties, Lingding Island, Longao and Qiniang Mountain, are really nice. After being established as the first special economic zone. Shenzhen has witnessed dramatic tourism development. Besides those time-honored cultural relics and scenic spots, the newly built tourist attractions and facilities are also fascinating. Splendid China and China Folk Culture Village are world-renowned theme parks. Safari Park features in the theme of "Back to Nature". Xiangmi Lake, completed recently, is a big amusement center on water. The golden beach in the east, garden scenery over the sea in the west, and cosmopolitan sights in the downtown area each has its own elegant glamour, and compete for beauty with each other. Shenzhen, a frontier town in the past, now has become a modern international tourist city with garden scenery on the coast of South China Sea.

Transportation

Accessibility to the City
Situated in the coastal area, southern part of Guangdong Province, Shenzhen faces Daya Bay on the east, teaches the estuary of Pearl River on the west, neighbors "Xinjie" of Hong Kong on the south, and is connected with Dongguan and Huizhou on the north. After 20 years' development since the implementation of Reform and Opening-up Policy, Shenzhen has become the only city with sea, land airports in China. It has formed a three-dimensional network of sea, land and air transportation. Shenzhen has over 80 scheduled flights every day and passengers can fly to 50 domestic cities directly. Shekou Bay provides great convenience for passengers from Hong Kong, Macau, Zhuhai, and Haikou. From 6:30 am to 10:00 pm, there are over 40 pairs of trains running between Shenzhen and Guangzhou, and 9 pairs running between Shenzhen and other nine cities, such as Beijing, Meizhou, Huaihua, Shantou, etc. there are four expressways connecting Shenzhen with Guangzhou, Meizhou, Xiamen and Shantou.

Domestic and International (Charter) Airport
Shenzhen Airport
Since Shenzhen became a special economic zone 20 years ago, aviation industry develops dramatically with the continuously increasing economic power. Opened in 1991, Shenzhen Airport is only 40-minutes' drive from the downtown area. Airport shuttle buses provide passengers with 24-hour service. The airport is affiliated with advanced facilities and complete functions. On average, over 80 flights fly to about 50 cities every day. Within 8 years, Shenzhen Airport attracts almost all airliners from Southwest, Northwest, Northeast, and Middle South China by its high efficient management and reliable service facilities. It ranks the fourth in terms of passenger handling capacity, and it is designated as one of the four major air cargo transport centers.
2. Cities with Direct Flights to Shenzhen
Beijing, Beihai, Changde, Changzhou, Changsha, Chongqing, Dalian, Dandong, Jinzhou, Fuzhou, Guilin, Harbin, Hangzhou, Haikou, Hefei, Huhehot, Huangyan, Huangshan Jinjiang, Jinan, Kunming, Zhanjiang, Nanchang, Nanning, Nanjing, Ningbo, Qingdao, Lanzhou, Sanya, Shenyang, Shijiazhuang, Wenzhou, Wuhan, Yichang, Shanghai, Taiyuan, Tianjin, Urmqi, Xi'an, Xiamen, Xiangfan, Xuzhou, Yantai, and Zhengzhou.

Railway Station and Excursion Trains
Shenzhen Railway Station
Located in Luohu District, Shenzhen Railway Station is the hub of transportation between Hong Kong and China mainland. The railway station has comfortable waiting room, spacious ticket hall, and tourist information desk. About 50 pairs of trains run between Shenzhen and other cities. Excursion trains are also available between Shenzhen and Shaoguan. Shenzhen Railway Station is not only a pivot of transportation, but also the only way to enter Hong Kong through Luohu Port. A commercial service area has come into being around this area. Luohu Shopping Town, which is close to the railway station, is a large comprehensive building, merging shopping, entertainment, food, accommodation and sightseeing together. The Railway Station Square is like a garden. About 20 bus and minibus lines are bound for all parts of Shenzhen. There are about tens of restaurants and almost ten star-rated hotels around this area to serve passengers.

Expressway
A Brief introduction to Shenzhen Express way
As a new tourist city and passenger transport center of South China, Shenzhen has an expressway network centered in Shenzhen and radiated to the neighboring cities. Meiguan Express way is the important way connecting Hong Kong and Shenzhen. It starts at Huanggang Port in the south and ends at Dongguan in the north via Longhua and Guanlan. 19.3km long and a dual carriageway with six lanes, it was put into operation in May 1995. 44.6 km long and a dual carriageway with six lanes, Jihe Expressway was completed in May 1999. it connects with Shenzhen Airport in the west, get across with No.107 National Way and Guangshen Expressway, and get linked up with Shenshan Expressway via Hezhou, Longhua, Henggang. It is an important part of national expressway in eastern coastal area.

Guangshen Expressway links Hong Kong with Guangzhou via Dongguan. It was completed in 1993, and is a dual carriageway with six lanes. It ranges 46km within Shenzhen. Shenshan Express way is an important way connecting Shenzhen with Shantou. It is also a coastal highway across the port. 16.5 km long in Shenzhen, it is a dual carriageway with four lanes. It was firstly put into operation in 1993. Huiyan Expressway starts at Yantian Harbor and ends at Huizhou. It measures 34.6km long in Shenzhen. The expressway is a dual carriageway with four lanes.
Still under construction, Yanba Express way starts at Shatoujiao in the west, and ends at Huizhou via Yantian Harbor, Suimuisha, and Dameisha scenic spots. It measures 28.9km long. Part a, under construction of the first phase, is 10km and a dual carriageway with six lanes. It is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2000. The three expressways in plan, which are expressways from Baimang to Dongguan, Buji to Dongguan, and Songgang to Dapeng, will be finished in 10 years. It is estimated that Shenzhen Government will invest RMB 11 billion yuan to build expressways. Shenzhen aims to become the first one with an expressway network within its area. Shenzhen expressways are famous for their first-class construction quality, first class management, and first-class service. it has advanced electronic toll-gates, monitoring system, and communication facilities along express ways. Jihe Expressway is known as the No.1 Expressway of Guangdong.
2. Meiguan Expressway 19.19km long, Meiguan Expressway starts at Meilin Inspection Site, and ends at Liguang Village bordering Dongguan, via Longhua town and Guanlan Town. It adopts a closed toll system and has four toll-gates of Meilin, Dafapu, Guanlan, and Liguang. Meiguan Expressway connects Meilin Customs in the south and reaches the largest land port in Asia, Huanggang Port, via Huanggang Road. It passes the central part of Longhua Town in the north and gets across with Jihe Expressway and outer ring road in plan. The completion of the expressway not only shortens the way for those vehicles from Hong Kong to cross Special Economic Zone, but also gives a big push to the development of the area along the road.
3. No.205 National Way (Shenzhen Section) No.205 National Way, Shenzhen Section is a first-class highway from Shenzhen to Huizhou. It begins at Buji Inspection Site, and ends at bordering part of Huizhou via Henggang Town, Longgang Town, and Pingdi Town. It measures 35.45km long and is a dual carriageway with six lanes. It adopts an open two-way toll system. The expressway is the main road to Huizhou, Shantou, and eastern part of Guangdong from Shenzhen, and also the leading way for vehicles from Hong Kong to enter Shenzhen via Wenjin Port.
According to statistics, the transportation volume has reached 42,000 in 1996.
4. No.107 National Way (Shenzhen Section) No.107 National Way, Shenzhen Section is a first-class highway from Shenzhen to Guangzhou. It starts at Nantou Inspection Site and ends at the bordering area with Dongguan via Xin'an, Xixiang, Fuyong, Shajing, and Songgang towns. It connects with Jihe Expressway in the middle. It ranges 31.68km and is a dual carriageway with six lanes. It adopts an open one-way toll system and has only one toll-gate at Songgang. The expressway is one of the most important roads in Pearl River Delta. It is for gathering and dispatching passengers and cargoes among Shenzhen, Shantou, and Pearl River Delta, and for exporting and importing cargoes in Shekou Harbor. It links Guangzhou and Hong Kong. Besides the tourist attractions like Shenzhen Airport, Xifan, and Shiyan Lake, there are others sights along No.107 National Way, Shenzhen Section, such as, Xin'an and Fuyong industrial areas. There are many industrial and residential zones along the expressway. With the economic development of Shenzhen and the return of Hong Kong to China, The relationship between Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou are strengthened. The transportation volume will increase steadily.

Urban Traffic
Taxis
Taxis in Shenzhen : Shenzhen is a newly developed city since the implementation of Reform and Opening-up Policy. It enjoys convenient traffic. Taxies are in models of Santana and Jetta made in China. Taxis have colors of red and yellow, while the red ones can be used for long-distance drive and the yellow ones are only in urban area.
Shenzhen taxis cost 12.5 at least, and 0.6 yuan will be added to the diameter every 250 meters, 0.8 yuan per minute for waiting. From 11:00 at night to 6:00 in the early morning, it will cost 16 yuan at least.

Traffic Routes and Tourist Buses
Main Traffic Routes and Tourist Buses
North Ring Road, Shennan Road, and Binhe Road are the three main roads in Shenzhen City. Shennan Road is the most important one. It reaches Fairy Lake Botanical Garden and Suimuisha Holiday Resort to the east, and Window of the World, Splendid China, Joy Valley, and Future Time to the west. Along the road, there are green belt and modern buildings such as Diwang Mansion and Fazhan Mansion, which illustrates the beautiful views of the city. Luxurious double-deckers are comfortable and enjoying. Guides will make introductions to scenic spots along the way. Terrific traffic can surely make your journey an enjoyable one.
 

Passengers Pier
Shekou Port Passengers Ferry Terminal
Situated in Nanshan District, Shekou Port Passengers Ferry Terminal is the only one for passengers in Shenzhen City. It provides passengers with advanced facilities and standard services. The pier by now has 4 routes to macau, Hong Kong, Zhuhai, and Haikou, and serves 101 voyages per week. There are passenger ships and passenger cargo vessels, which are relatively slow in speed. It takes only one hour for passenger ships to reach Hong Kong, and an hour and a half to Macau. From 7:50 to 17:30, 11 voyages of passenger ships will be in service to make it easy for visitors from Hong Kong easy to come to Shenzhe.
