Accessibility to the City
Located in the
southeast of Guangdong Province, Zhuhai is a port at the Pearl River
estuary, facing the South China Sea. In the east, it faces Shenzhen
and Hong Kong across the sea. In the South, it connects with Macao. In
the north, it is 140 kilometers from Guangzhou. The total area
including land and sea covers 7,649 square kilometers. The landform of
Zhuhai is composed of hills, plains, lakes and sea. The vast sea
covers more than 6,000 square kilometers. Zhuhai has the title of "a
City of Hundred Islands." According to the strategy of building Zhuhai
into an international economic zone, Zhuhai carries on its
construction in city plan, and fundamental facilities ahead of time.
Since 1980, to develop the west region of Zhuhai has become the key
construction of the city. The projects include deep-water port, large
airport, express railway and highways. The convenient transportation
in Zhuhai lays a solid foundation for further development of Zhuhai's
economy in the future. There air six first-class ports in Zhuhai
Gongbei Port is the second largest port in China Inside the city,
traffic goes smooth and easy. Buses keep clean and tidy. The
garden-style waiting pavilions at every bus stop are unique in the
whole country. Deluxe buses go in and out the Province. Guangzhou--Zhuhai
railway began to build in October 1997. The airport is 40 kilometers
from downtown. There are 30 airlines to Beijing, Shanghai and other
eities with more than 100 flights per week. Ships go between Jiuzhou
Port to Shenzhen and Hong Kong every day. Two 20,000-ton piers of
Zhuhai port are open. The project of Lingdingyang Bridge has got the
State's approval.
Zhuhai Airport
Located at
Sanzao, the western district of Zhuhai, the Zhuhai Airport was
constructed strictly according to the standard of international civil
airport in general planning, design and construction. The runway,
waiting hall, communication and radio navigation system, oil supply
and safe devices, all reach the international advanced level. The
runway is 4,000 meters long and 60 meters wide. The slide road is
4,000 meters long and 44 meters wide, offering various types of planes
in the world to take-off and land. The cities to which Zhuhai open air
traffic are as follows : Beijing, Shanghai, Haikou, Chengdu, Chongqing,
Wuhan, Changsha, Xiamen, Zhengzhou, Nanjing, Xi'an, Kunming, Nanning,
Guilin, Beihai, Zhanjiang, Shantou, Nanchang, Hefei, Huangshan,
Hangzhou, Taiyuan, Lanzhou, Urumqi, Guiyang, Heilongjiang, Shenyang,

Changchun, Wuyishan, Jinjiang, Xi'an, Zhangjiajie and Zhoushan.

"Sea Buses"
come in and go out between Zhuhai and Hong Kong via Jiuzhou Port,
while the large-scale Zhuhai Port makes the Pacific Ocean be the "blue
race course" of Zhuhai.
Transportation in City Proper
The waiting
pavilions at bus stops in Zhuhai are unmatched in the whole country.
The top-grade buses carry out an even ticket price, 2 yuan for
air-conditioning buses, 1 yuan for ordinary buses. Bus routes cover
over all the main streets. Most of the buses are self-service, so you
had better prepare enough changes before your getting on.

Steamers
As the
largest passenger traffic pier in Zhuhai, Zhuhai Harbour has routes
to Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Jiuzhou Island. There are passenger
ships taking tourists for a cruise around Macao Peninsular. Over 100
passenger ships arrive at or set off Zhuhai Harbour. And the Hong
Kong Passenger Pier of Jiuzhou Harbour has already routes to
Shenzhen and each island of Zhuhai's East Distriet.

Water Transportation
Zhuhai Jiuzhou Passenger Transport Service Co. Ltd. is one of the
largest water transportation port companies in the coastal area of
our country. Jiuzhou Port is a national first-level port and a very
important window of the city to open to the outside Since it opened
in 1982, it has increased dramatically from a small, poor port into
its present flourishing condition Many water passenger transport
lines have been established, such as from Zhuhai to Hong Kong, to
Shenzhen, to Huan Dao in Macao and soon. The voyage number now has
increased from 4 per day in the beginning to more than 100 per day
now. The passengers flow rate through the port has grown from 45
thousand-person-time per year in its early years to 3.5
million-person-time per year now.
Every day there are more than 50 voyages starting from Jiuzhou Port
to Shenzhen and every 15-30 minutes two ships will start to sail
from the two places to Hongkong. There are 24 voyages each day. As
an addition to it, Jiuzhou Port has started night service since July
last year. And from the Laborers' Festival of this year, Zhuhai
Jiuzhou Port Passenger Transportation Service Co. Ltd. has brought
forth a new beneficial policy: the old people over 65 and middle or
primary school student groups can pay just half their tickets' price
to enjoy the trip from Jinzhou to Shenzhen.
Zhuhai Jiuzhou Passenger Transportation Service Co. Ltd. is
perfectly equipped with advanced appliance. It first started to use
computer to realize network ticket selling in the country and now it
has 18 ticket, selling spots all over the urban district of Zhuhai,
Doumen and Zhongshan. The company building contains deluxe shopping
center, restaurants, business center and express service from Zhuhai
to Shenzhen.
Zhuhai Jiuzhou Port Transportation Service Co. Ltd. obeys strictly

Taxis
There are 24
taxi companies with 1773 cars in Zhuhai. The taxis go along streets
and lanes, and you can flag a passing taxi anywhere you want. The
fare is metered. The minimum price is 10 yuan and 24 yuan per
kilometer. If the fee is unreasonable or you feel uneasy, please
complain to the taxi's company by telephone. The phone number is
printed on the ear. There are three kinds of taxis in Zhuhai: red in
city proper, yellow in Zhuhai Airport, going between the city and
the airport, stopping at the Port and some definite places, and blue
in Doumen County, going between the western district to city proper,
stopping mainly Gongbei Port.
