Description :
Designated as a natural monument, Bijarim Forest has a group of
about 2,800 Bija trees which are 500∼800 years old. They are 7~14m
high, with diameters ranging from 50~110cm, and is the largest bija
forest in the world. This forest is presumed to have formed when the
bija seeds were flown around the area during the sacrificial rites
to the gods. In the middle of the forest is an 800-year-old tree,
the oldest tree on Jeju-do island. The tree is 25m high and has a
girth of 6m and is called the ancestor tree of the Bija trees. There
are rare orchids and plants growing in the forest. In the past, the
bija tree blossoms and the Bija oil were used as insecticides. In
1992, Jejudo Island renovated a walkway at this site for the
citizens and tourists to enjoy forest walks through the wonderful
forest.

At Jeju Intercity Bus Terminal
- Take the Donghae Line Intercity bus. Get off at Pyeongdae-ri or
Sehwa-ri and take the shuttle round trip bus. Buses are run every
hour (ride for about 7-8 minute bus ride).
- Take the Intercity bus and get off at Sehwari. Take a taxi from
Sehwari to Bijarim Forest.

Mt. Hallasan National Park

Description :
Mt.Hallasan stands tall in the middle of Jejudo Island. It is
also called Mt.Yeongjusan, meaning a mountain high enough to pull
the galaxy. Mt.Hallasan is widely acknowledged by scholars for its
research values. Designated as a National Park in 1970, there are
368 parasitic mountains called "Ohreum(peaks)" around Mt. Hallasan.
From its warm climate to the cold climate areas, Mt.Hallasan is
famous for its vertical ecosystem of plants. 1,800 kinds of plants
and 4,000 species of animals(3,300 species of insects) inhabit here,
and due to the well-developed climbing course, you can carefully
observe the surroundings. Mt.Hallasan is a short climbing course.
Less than 10km in length, it is possible to reach the peak and come
back down in one day. But the weather conditions often change and
there is a lot of wind, so you must be well prepared before going up
the mountain.
Directions :
Follow the Seongpanak path on the east of Mt.Hallasan and you
can reach the peak.
There are buses going from Seogwipo and Jeju-si, every 15 minutes.
It takes 35 minutes from Jeju-si to Seongpanakpath. It takes 40
minutes from Seogwipo-si to Seungpanakpath.

Jeju Racecourse

Description :
Jeju Racecourse is situated at the base of Mt. Hallasan, 450 m above
sea level, with a great view of Baekrokdam and the ocean. It was
first set up to protect the Jeju Horse (Natural Monument #347) in
1990. It is open around the year to provide space for excursions,
picnic parties and exercises. Its main facilities are the racetrack
made of sand which is 1,600m in length and 20m in width, examination
hall where you can see the conditions of the horses before the race,
spectators’ floors from 3rd basement floor to the ground floor,
holding 3000 persons per floor, 100 monitors, 100 ticket desks,
information desks and a free parking lot which can hold 2000 cars.
From July to August, races are held between 4:25 PM-9:20 PM. In the
vicinity is the Eoksae Flower Garden which is so beautiful that it
is the subject of the “Jeju Eoksae Flower Festival”

Sangumburi Crater

Description :
Sangumburi is a crater with a circumference of over 2 km, designated
as Natural Monument. It is located on the southeast side of Jeju-si,
and is a flat crater, about 650 meters wide, 100 meters deep, and
2,070 meters in circumference. If you look at the crater from above
up, it looks like a man-made circular stadium. There is a variety of
plant-life in the crater. On the north side, Nandaeseong vegetation
such as red-thorn trees, and magnolia trees grow, along with the
rare winter strawberries. On the south side of the crater, Ondaerim
vegetation such as evergreens, maples, and mountain strawberry trees
cover the area. Because so many different kinds of trees and plants
grow in such a limited space, it is attracting attention from
researchers as well. On Sangumburi Crater, there are also other
interesting sites to see, such as the entrance and the crater
itself.

Seongpanak

Description :
Seongpanak is one of the gisaeng (parasite) volcanos on Jeju island.
Gisaeng volcanos are created when lava erupts and creates a smaller
volcano on top the existing volcano at the base of the volcano.
Jeju-do island has over 350 such volcanos. Seongpanak is 1,215 meter
above sea level. The name came from the way the vertical cliff
spreads out about 500 meters looks like a fortress (“seong”) being
fenced with wooden boards (“pan”). There is thick virgin forest on
Seongpanak which gives the area a unique atmosphere all year round.
The road here is clear and wide, but because of the many rocks it
could be a bit uncomfortable to walk. The azaleas create a pink
blanket in the spring, and blends well with the clear waterfall in
the area.

Suwolbong Peak and Chagwi Beach

Description :
Located at the western end of Jejudo Island, Suwolbong, a small
mountaintop, is famous for being a favorite sunset viewing place.
The mountain has vertical cliffs spreading out like a scroll
painting, created from the sea waves gradually cutting inland. The
top the hexagonal pavilion Suwoljeong, from where you can look down
on all sides. From this pavilion, you can see all of the West Sea.
To the north, off the coast, is the Chagwido (sometimes called Jukdo)
Island, where only the top peak area has grass growing, and the rest
of the island is made up of dark hyeonmuam rocks and cliffs.
Chagwido is famous as a fishing place, and in January, March, June,
and December, people come here to fish. Around sunset time,
Chagwido’s the seashore of turning red along with the sun is truly
an awesome sight to behold.

Intercity Bus Terminal, take a bus headed to Seogwipo, going on the
Seohoe Line, and Ilju Road, and get off at Gosan-ri bus stop (buses
run every 15 min). Walk 30 minutes to Suwolbong for 30 min. (or take
taxi from Gosan-ri).
To get to Chagwido, get off at Gosan-ri, walk for about 20 minutes
to get to a port. It takes about 10 minutes by ferry to get to the
island.

Udo
Maritime Park

Description :
Udo Island is an island at the east end of Jeju Island. It is called
Udo because its shape resembles that of a cow that is lying down or
sticking out its head. The circumference of Udo Island is 17km and
there are about 700 houses and 1800 residents who live on farming
and fishing. Udo Island is the biggest island among the many islands
that surround Jejudo Island - its land is furtile, it has abundant
fishing farms, and is a great place to visit. Udo Island can also
give you the impression that you are seeing a miniaturized Jeju
island when you see Jeju women divers, stone streets, stone tombs
and very similar traditional culture and natural environments. If
you go up to the top of island to Udobong Peak. you can see the
entire Jejudo island including Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak (a famous
spot for sunrises). In northern Jejudo, in order to protect the
natural environment and promote tourism, two of the harbor areas and
the seashore area have been designated as Udo Maritime Park. You can
enjoy fishing all over the island, and you can visit the whole
island in 2-3 hours on a bicycle.

Manjanggul Cave

Description :
Manjanggul Cave is one of the finest lava tunnels in the world, and
is a designated natural monument. A lava tunnel is formed when the
lava that was deep in the ground spouts from the peak and flows to
the surface. Manjanggul Cave has a variety of interesting structures
inside including 70cm lava stalagmites and the lava tube tunnels.
Only 1km of the 3,422m Manjanggul Cave is open to the tourists. The
inside of the tunnel sustains at a temperature of 11-21℃, creating a
comfortable atmosphere. There are rare animals such as bats living
in the tunnel, which makes this tunnel valuable for researchers as
well. The stone pillars and stalactites are widely spread and the
tunnels shows off the cave’s topographical features. The Stone
Turtle is especially eye-catching because it is shaped like Jejudo
Island.

Hyeopjae Beach

Description :
Hyeopjae Beach is located on the west side of Hanrim-eup, and is
part of the Hanrim Park. Its white sand has a lot of fine sea shell
power mixed into it, and just off the beach is Biyangdo island. The
long seashore is 9 km long and has evergreen forests and cobalt
color sea water scattered here and there, making the scenery very
beautiful. The white sandy beach is about 20 meters long, and its
water is 1.2 m deep with no sudden drops – it is a fit place for
vacationing families. Many convenience facilities are available, and
in the evergreen forest area, overnight camping is allowed. The
Hanrim Park nearby has a subtropical arboretum, Hyeopjaegul cave,
and Ssangyonggul Cave which provide interesting tour sites. The
seashore to the southwest of the Hyeopjae Beach connects to another
beach called Geumreung Beach, and both beaches combined are also
called Hyeopjae Beach as well. From any beach on Jejudo Island, you
can always see Mt. Hallasan mountain.
