Deokyusan. It is said that during the Silla Dynasty, a white lotus
flower bloomed here, and that’s why the temple is called Baekryeonsa.

elegant and quiet temple. After walking over the Baekryeon bridge at
the entrance of the temple, you will come to a stone stairway. At
the top is the main sanctuary. The majesty and beauty of the main

latter half of the Joseon Dynasty. Instead of the usual Bosal
statues on each side, there area Yeorae statues, which is unique.
Past Myeongbujeon is Baekryeonsa’s Sajeokbe, and the workmanship of
the calligraphy carved on them are very highly regarded. Baekryeonsa
Temple is famous for the camellia trees that surround the temple.
About 1,500 trees are growing here, and in the blooming season, the

Mt.
Deogyusan National Park
Address :
Dugil-ri, Seolcheon-myeon, Muju-gun, Jeollabuk-do / Geochang-gun,
Hamyang-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do
Description :
Mt. Deogyusan
National Park covers Geochang-gun of Gyeongsangnam-do and Muju-gun
of Jeollabuk-do. Starting from Mt. Deogyusan main peak,
Hyangjeokbong, the ridges are about 1300m above sea level, and as it
stretches southwestward for about 18 km, it branches out in many
directions to create a huge assemblage of mountains. For every
branch of the mountain ridgeline, there are matching valleys at Mt.
Deogyusan. Among these valleys, Mujugucheondong Valley, stretching
25 km from the Deogyu peak to Seolcheon River on the north, is the
most famous. There are 33 sceneries in the valley known for their
beauty, called Gucheondong 33 Kyeong, but the 12th Kyeong, known as
Susimdae, is the most beautiful. Susimdae is a valley 400 m deep.
Because water as clear as jade flow through here, it is also called
Suhwa.
Mt. Deogyusan also has three valleys that are grouped together, the
Chilyeon, Jeoksang, Munan valleys, and among them the Chilyeon
Valley is the most beautiful. It is famous for its Chilyeon
Waterfall, where clear water passes by thick pine forest and go
between various shapes of rocks. This water current has created
seven ponds, and the way they are all lined up makes up for a very
interesting view. Clear water comes into each of these ponds,
circles for a while, and then falls into another pond to create
seven segmented waterfalls. The Chilyeon Waterfall blend well with
the surrounding old pine trees and maple trees. In the summer, many
vacationers, and in the fall, people looking for autumn colored
leaves visit this area.
Mt. Deogyusan has many such beautiful spots of valleys, waterfalls,
pine forests, and fantastic looking rocks. All the more, with
Mujugucheon-dong being the center, in conjunction with the National
Park Administration Office, they provide the visitors with many
convenience facilities in order to make their stay here more

Gucheondong Valley
Address :
Dugil-ri, Seoulcheon-myeon, Muju-gun, Jeonbuk
Description :
Gucheondong
Valley is located within Deokyusan in Jeonrabuk-do, and is often
called Mujugucheon-dong, which refers to a 25km stretch of land and
water from Najetongmun to Deokyusan Mountain’s Baekryeonsa.
Gucheondong Valley is not a deep valley. But the valley flows
through a lush forest that’s quite beautiful. The calm and soothing
sounds of the river is very refreshing. The 33 scenic points of
Gucheondong is what makes it famous. The two most famous are
Najetongmun and Sushimdae. Najetonmun, the first scenic point is a
huge boulder with a hole through it like a tunnel. During the Samguk
era, this spot use to be the border between Silla and Baekjae
nations. Because it was the dividing line between the two nations,
even to this day, the east and west side’s speech and customs are
different. No one knows how hole got there, but the experience of
waling through it is quite interesting. Sushimdae, the 12th scenic
point, is a valley approximately 400m in length. It is surrounded by
mountain cliffs, which makes the area resemble Geumgangsan Mountain,
and so it is often referred to as Sogeumgangsan, or little
Geumgangsan. The clear water and beautiful scenery makes this spot a
must-see. Many people come to Gucheondong Valley for trekking. The
trails go from Deokyusan National Park to Baekryeonsa. It’s a 3 hour
round trip for this 6 km trail. Though it’s a mountain trail, the
undulations are not severe, making it ideal for trekking.
