Mt. Jirisan National Park
Address : Gyeongsangnam-do >Sancheong-gun> Mt.Jirisan
National Park
Description :
A place with beautiful scenery, Mt. Jirisan National Park was
the first to be designated as a national park, in 1967. It is a
mountain range of awesome scale, extending across the three
provinces and five cities. The magnificent mountains and exceptional
scenery make this one of the most famous mountains in Korea. 1,915
meters above sea level, Cheonwangbong Peak, considered to be the
pillar of heaven is the main peak. Mt. Jirisan also features
Banyabong and Nogodan, and is home to over 10 famous temples.
There’s over twenty summits and valleys such as Baemsagol Valley,
which are part of Mt. Jirisan Ten[Sceneries]. As this is the
location of the most well-preserved virgin forest in Korea and wild
life, the majestic and mystical mountain is often viewed with the
highest respect. There are many species of animal and plant life,
and as the first place to cultivate tea in Korea, herbal medicine
cultivation still flourishes here. Mt. Jirisan was also where the
Buddhist culture prospered, and there are a lot of cultural assets
here, such as Silsangsa Temple(National Treasure No.7), Baekjangam
and the Three-Story Stone Pagoda (National Treasure No. 26.). These
regional cultural assets and the superb sceneries of nature give you
a unique taste of local history and culture. The weather is
temperamental and only 80-100 days out of the year are clear and
sunny, but the mist and fog create rare scenes not found elsewhere.

Baegundong Valley
Address : Baegun-ri, Dansung-myeon, Sancheong-gun
Description :
If you go 5 km up along the valley at Baegam-ri, under the thick
woods, you will find a 180 square meter long stone named ‘Jeomjeong
Rock’ and a small waterfall. This valley is Baegundong Gyegok
Valley. For almost 6 km, the water of the valley flows over only
rocks, with over twenty large and small falls and lakes. Large
stones in the valley are gorgeous because the stones are washed with
sunbeams and the strong current of water. The most famous falls are
Baeun Pokpo Waterfall and Odam Pokpo Waterfall. Strong current of
water flows in Deungcheondae, where the letters
‘Yeongnamjeilcheonsok’ are carved. Baegundong Valley is a clean area
due to maintenance of the clean natural environment. Many tourists
visit here because the valley is decorated with azaleas in spring
and it is cool in summer.
