Jungmun Folk Museum
Address :
2563-1
Jungmun-dong, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do
Description :
Jungmun Folk Museum was created to preserve the traditional features
of Jejudo Island's fishing villages. It exhibits a preserved village
called "Beritnae", which means ‘the village where stars fall’. It
preserves the fishing village, which was almost eliminated by the
Jungmun Resort Complex. The museum is small due to its exclusive use
of the original 15 huts from the village. But over the stonewalls
you can see the blue ocean and the female divers doing their work.
Those who see it for the first time find themselves lost, immersed
in the beautiful site. If you enter the village and go down toward
the sea, you will notice a particular hut. This hut displays about
3000 fishing, farming, and other items used in day-to-day living.
Each hut is labeled with its appropriate function, such as ‘Wedding
House’, ‘Workhouse (Dugeori House)’, etc. On one side of the hut is
a bathroom called "dottongsi", which is a native bathroom of Jejudo
Island. The roofs are redone every year to maintain the traditional
appearance. The roof is painstakingly hand made from straw. After
viewing the village, you can go to the area by the ocean. An old
house belonging to a ship’s owner is still standing there. Long ago,
it was used as an inn. After the tour in the folk museum, there will
still be plenty more to see. In the neighborhood there are Pacific
Land, Yeomiji Botanical Garden, Cheonjeyeon Waterfall, Jungmun
Beach, and many other sites, so be sure to check for all the various

island that blossom from December to January). Winter strawberries
also grow here. The peak season of this beautiful valley is Baekjung
