Event & Description |
To mark this great
day of penance and thanksgiving, Hindus pierce their tongues and
cheeks with metal skewers before embarking on a gruelling 4-km
procession. Marvel at this dramatic demonstration of faith,
where devotees carry ornate kavadis (semi-circular metal frames)
on their shoulders or pull chariots with spikes and hooks
embedded in their bare bodies, without a drop of blood in sight!
Temple etiquette requires visitors to be dressed appropriately
and shoes to be removed at the door. |
